Easy 'N' Inexpensive
Enhance Your Athearn Mack Concrete Mixers
Steps for enhancing Athearn Mack Model B or R concrete mixers
Highlight some of the details with Sharpies (fine or ultrafine tip)
Black for tip of exhaust pipe, air horn “opening” and windshield divider
Silver for interior of loading hopper and discharge chute to represent polished metal (can be burnished with a toothpick for blending with the painted surface or use an “expended” Sharpie)
Flat black paint for fender wells
Decal license plates (optional)
Dust with powdered Tempera paints using a dry paint brush (can also tone down the overall shine of the finish)
Black for brake pad (or shoe) dust and tire weathering
Brown for dirt and dust
Mix white and black for cement dust
Challenges
Headlights
While it is generally better to “silver” (with silver paint or silver paint pen) the backs of clear plastic headlights, the benefits are minimal with the Athearn Mack trucks.
Be careful not to paint the “back” of the headlights black when painting the wheel wells if you do not paint the back portion of the headlight silver.
This truck is still in rather pristine condition for the job it does. Don’t worry about over doing the powdered Tempera paint, most of it will wash off if you want to start over.
